311RS On Track: BIR Fall Fling 2017
We’re back to HQ from another great weekend at the track. This would be our final visit to BIR for the 2017 season and we sent the year off with a bang. Supporting 9 Porsches, two more than ever before, here’s how it went down.
The newly minted 311RS Paddock was put to good use during the weekend, providing much needed shelter from the rain on Saturday. Ryan’s 930 was relegated to the sidelines to make room for our supported drivers.
This weekend we had two 997.1 GT3s on hand. Both street cars, they’ve been prepared with a focus on track use with components from our technical partners. Recaro, Michelin, Girodisc, & more played a role in getting them dialed in.
In addition to the 997s, we had two 991 GT3s in the paddock with us. This Sapphire Blue example is a new one to the crew, but it’s quickly picking up speed.
We’ve got the car setup with an effective safety package consisting of: BBi Autosport roll bar painted Sapphire Blue, Recaro Profi XL seats, and HANS Schroth harnesses. The car has also had it’s chassis massaged with a focus on improved drivability on track.
The car was finished off with a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s.
We’ve been working on the initial setup on John’s 993 over the summer. As he’s picked up speed, the car has started to show us where we need to focus over the winter. For this weekend, our goal for him was to get a baseline lap on the books.
The cars cleaned, lugs torqued, it was time to get out on track.
The two 997 GT3s were first out and immediately found each other on track. Together, they spent the session working their way through the traffic of Group 2.
Speaking of traffic, Gumer found himself in the thick of it with his 991 GT3.
John was on it early, besting his previous best lap time during the first session of the weekend.
We’ve got more than a few winter plans for this car. The way John has connected with this car made it clear which path needs to be taken – we’re headed to Grip City.
Out in Group 3, Bruce was crushing it in his 991 GT3. While the car may appear stock, it is far from it. The setup on the car has shaved 5sec over stock.
The sun broke for the later sessions on Saturday. Luis took full advantage and finished the day off right. We’ll leave with a selection of images from Peter Lapinski, enjoy!
